Our vision

To act as the voice of the EAO by gathering and sharing learning outcomes from the association’s educational and scientific activities. To present these in formats that are optimised for our different audiences and for inclusion in the EAO’s scientific journals, COIR and IJP.

Irena Sailer (Switzerland)

Chair

Irena Sailer received her dental education and Dr. med. dent. degree from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Tübingen, Germany in 1997/ 1998. In 2003 Dr. Sailer received an Assistant Professorship at the Clinic of Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics and Dental Material Sciences in Zurich. Since September 2013 she is the Head of the Division of Fixed Prosthodontics and Biomaterials at the University of Geneva.

Magnús Jon Björnsson (Iceland)

Advisor

Magnus Björnsson graduated from the University of Iceland School of Dentistry in 1992. After 3 years as an associate in private practice in Reykjavik he spent a year at the Karolinska Institute Department of Periodontology, Stockholm. He finished his Ph.D. in periodontology from the University of Copenhagen School of Dentistry in 2001.
Since 2006 he has been one of the owners of a private dental clinic in Reykjavik, Iceland, focusing on peridontology and implant dentistry.

She is a licensed specialist in Prosthodontics since 2011 and currently has a position as Associate professor and Head of the Department of Prosthodontics at Malmö University.
Her research focus is on dental materials, manufacturing techniques and dental implants, with a special interest in dental ceramics.

Ana Messias (Portugal)

Ana Messias received her degree in Dentistry in 2008 from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra, Portugal, and completed a postgraduate programme in Prosthodontics in 2011 at the same university. She completed her PhD in 2019, specializing in biomechanics of dental implants and prostheses (Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra). Irena Sailer (Switzerland)

Irena Sailer received her dental education and Dr. med. dent. degree from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Tübingen, Germany in 1997/ 1998. In 2003 Dr. Sailer received an Assistant Professorship at the Clinic of Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics and Dental Material Sciences in Zurich. Since September 2013 she is the Head of the Division of Fixed Prosthodontics and Biomaterials at the University of Geneva. Irena Sailer is a Specialist for Prosthodontics (Swiss Society for Reconstructive Dentistry) and for Dental Implantology WBA (Swiss Society for Dentistry).

Since 2009 she is an Adjunct Associate Professor at University of Pennsylvania, USA, and since 2019 an Honorary Professor at the University of Aarhus, Denmark.

She is a Member of the Executive Committee of the EAO (European Association for Osseointegration), and the President of the EAED (European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry). She is also an Active Fellow of the GNYAP (Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontics).

Since 2019 Irena Sailer is the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Prosthodontics and a member of ICP.

Magnús Björnsson (Iceland)

He has also worked extensively for the Icelandic dental assiciation.Magnus has been on the EAO abstract committee since 2018 and is currently one of the co-chairs of the EAO Abstract Committee. He has held numerous lectures on dentistry, mainly within the field of periodontology and implant dentistry

Current positions include Adjunct Professor at the International Research Collaborative, The University of Western Australia, Professor at The University of Sydney, and Guest Professor at the University of Berne and the University of Shanghai. Osteology Foundation board member. She is the Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Oral Implants Research. Scientific publications in the fields of periodontal regeneration and management of peri-implant diseases. As a specialist in periodontology Prof Heitz-Mayfield maintains a private practice limited to periodontology and implant surgery with an emphasis on regeneration, prevention and comprehensive treatment planning.

Winner of the 2013 Osteology Clinical Research Prize. Mario Roccuzzo is co-author of the recent book “Peri-implant Soft-Tissue Integration and Management”.

Daniel Thoma (Switzerland)

He serves as a board member in the International Academy of Facial and Oral Rehabilitation (IAOFR) and Strassbourg Osteosynthesis Research Group (SORG) and member of the abstract committee of the EAO. He is founding editor of the International Journal of Implant Dentistry (IJID) until 2022 and section editor of the International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (IJOMS).

Ann Wennerberg (Sweden)

Ann Wennerberg received her dental degree at the Dental Faculty, Gothenburg University, in 1979. She became Doctor of Medicine in 1996 at the department of Handicap Research and specialist in Oral Prosthodontics in 1997 at the Dental faculty of Gothenburg University. In 2002 she became Professor at the same university. Between 2008 and 2017 she held a position as Professor and chairman at the department of Prosthodontic, Malmö University. Duygu Yaman is an Associate Professor at the Istanbul University Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Periodontology. She received her DDS from Istanbul University in 1998, and her PhD from Istanbul University, Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Periodontology in 2004.

She was an ITI Scholar at the University of Zurich, Center of Dental Medicine, Clinic of Reconstructive Dentistry, between 2004-2005. Following her work as a periodontist at a private dental hospital, she joined Istanbul University, Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Periodontology as a Research Assistant in 2009. She received her Associate Professorship in 2015 and continues to teach and work at the same institution.

Kemal Unsal (Türkiye)

Prof. Unsal is born in 1965. He had his high school education in Ankara, Türkiye. Following his graduation from the Dental School of University of Ankara, he started his academic career as a research assistant in the Department of Fixed and Removable Prosthesis. He has been granted a government scholorship to have his Ph D at the University of Sheffield School of Clinical Dentistry on 1991. Franz Josef  Strauss (Switzerland)

Dr. Franz Strauss graduated from the University of Finis Terrae, Chile, in 2010. He completed a two-and-a-half-year residency in Periodontics at the University Valparaiso and obtained his Master of Science degree in 2015 from the University of Chile.
